Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), have launched ‘Taste 69 @ 69’, a culinary initiative aimed at promoting Ghanaian cuisine and showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The event, held at the National Theatre, under the theme ‘Resetting Ghana’s Tourism, Culture and Creative Ecosystem’ is part of Ghana’s 69th independence anniversary celebrations.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GTA, Maame Efua Houadjeto emphasized the importance of promoting local food and culture, stating;

“If we do not promote our food, nobody will do it for us. If we do not preserve our recipes, they will disappear. If we do not commercialise our cuisine, we will lose economic opportunity.”

The initiative calls on restaurant operators, chefs, caterers, and food entrepreneurs to feature Ghanaian cuisine in their offerings.

Madam Houadjeto noted that tourism encompasses not only monuments and festivals but also food, culture, creativity, and the overall experience Ghana offers.

The ‘Taste 69 @ 69’ exhibition features 69 Ghanaian cuisines, highlighting the country’s diverse culinary traditions.

The GTA aims to support initiatives that promote indigenous cuisines, cultural heritage, local enterprises, and domestic tourism.

Madam Houadjeto urged Ghanaians to “eat and taste Ghana, promote Ghana, and experience Ghana,” emphasizing the theme that culture is the country’s strength, heritage is its identity, and tourism is its future.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, also reiterated that Ghana’s culture should be celebrated daily, not just on special occasions.

She further urged Ghanaians to preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage and pass it on to generations.

“Let us remind ourselves that our culture is not merely something we celebrate when we choose to, once a week sometimes twice a week maybe.

It’s something we should celebrate everyday, every month, and every year forever. It’s something we live and we must protect it and pass it on,” she said on Friday, March 13, 2026.
