The Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency and member of the Parliament’s Budget Committee, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has hinted the need for a Parliamentary Budget Office to enhance fiscal oversight.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the IMF Mission for Fiscal Affairs Department, Mr. Bekoe emphasized that such an office would provide independent, non-partisan technical advice to parliamentarian, enabling them to conduct comprehensive budget analysis.
He noted that the establishment of a parliamentary budget office would help reduce partisan politics in budget discussions, allowing MPs to make informed decisions based on technical advice.
“If we have these budget office, non-partisan office established and advices are given, then it is up to the parliamentarians to either accept or otherwise,” he said.
The MP stressed that the office would enhance budget processing, enabling parliament to effectively exercise its oversight role.
The meeting with the IMF delegation held on Monday, March 16, 2026, is aimed to discuss Ghana’s fiscal transparency practices and identify areas for improvement.
