The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced that the Damang Mining Lease, currently held by Abosso Goldfields Limited, a subsidiary of Goldfields Limited, will expire on April 18, 2026, after a one-year extension.

As a result, the government has announced measures to safeguard jobs and sustain operations at the Damang Mine as its mining lease approaches expiration.

In a statement issued on March 24, the ministry acknowledges the Damang Mine as a key national asset that contributes significantly to Ghana’s gold production, export earnings, and employment and has outlined measures to ensure continuity of operations.

These include safeguarding jobs, maintaining service contracts, and reassuring stakeholders of a smooth transition.

The Ministry confirmed that the next operators of the Damang Mine will be selected through a competitive bidding process.

According to the statement, this approach is intended to secure a credible investor and operator, while advancing long-term Ghanaian-centered ownership and investment.

“As government advances this transition, it remains committed to ensuring that the Damang Mine continue to deliver lasting value for the host communities and the nation at large,” It added.
