The Austrian national team handed Ghana’s Black Stars a harsh reality check in their international friendly on Friday, March 27, condemning them to a 5-1 defeat.
The European side, in a dominant display, took the lead in the 13th minute when Marcel Sabitzer converted a penalty.
Michael Gregoritsch doubled the advantage in the 51st minute, before Stephan Posch added a third in the 59th minute to put Austria firmly in control.
Ghana managed to pull one back through captain Jordan Ayew, who scored a solo effort in the 77th minute to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Austria quickly restored their three-goal cushion two minutes later, as substitute Carney Chukwuemeka found the net in the 79th minute.
In stoppage time, Nicholas Seiwald sealed the emphatic victory with a strike in the 92nd minute, capping an outstanding performance by the Austrians.
The Black Stars will now turn their focus to Germany, whom they face on March 30 in Stuttgart.
