The Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has appealed to the government to grant financial clearance to recruit staff at KNUST.
Speaking at the institution’s 59th congregation of postgraduate students in Kumasi, the Asantehene said growing student numbers demand more lecturers and support staff.
According to him, he has made repeated calls for clearance to enable recruitment needed for teaching, research, and service.
“I therefore wish to respectfully renew this appeal and urge the government, as a matter of necessity, to grant the required clearance,” he said.
He emphasized that KNUST’s student population continues to grow, and expansion brings increasing demand for qualified lecturers, researchers, and administrative staff.
He stated that granting clearance would strengthen human resource capacity, improve the staff-to-student ratio, and enhance teaching and research quality.
“Granting financial clearance will enable the university to strengthen its human resource capacity, improve the staff-to-student ratio, and further enhance the quality of teaching and research across academic programs,” he stated.
He further said adequate staffing is crucial for advancing the shared national aspiration of building globally competitive institutions that contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
