The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed that the government has settled all outstanding payments to contractors on the Suame Interchange project, which has been stalled since 2024.
Speaking in response to recent protests by traders and artisans at Suame Magazine over dust and delays, Dr. Amoakohene said he had received information from the Transport Ministry that payments to the contractors have been made and work will resume soon.
“I’m here to announce to you that today I have received information by the transport ministry that payments have been made to the contractor on Suame Interchange, old debt from 2024 all the way to 2026 has been paid, and work will resume on the Interchange next week,” he stated.
He added that other key interventions are under way to address transportation issues across the region, citing that contractors are already working on several roads, including Mankoradze Road, the Bekwai–Santasi Road, and the Agogo–Maame Krobo road.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasised that works will be completed to a high standard, with solid concrete surfacing to ensure the roads’ longevity.
“Also to remind you that work is ongoing on the Mankoadze road, Bekwai to Santasi road work is ongoing, the Agogo to Maame Krobo road work is ongoing, as we are doing all these, we are also ensuring that solid concrete works that need to be done are also being done, so before you ask, I wanted to let you know that these are some key interventions from the central government,” he remarked.
