Maphlix Farms has announced plans to supply 3,000 tonnes of tomatoes to the Ghanaian market in a major step toward strengthening local food production and ensuring national food security at Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region.

In a Facebook post by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the initiative comes at a critical time following Burkina Faso’s initial ban on tomato exports to Ghana, which has raised concerns over potential supply shortfalls in local markets.

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, said these interventions are expected to significantly raise output and guarantee a consistent supply of quality tomatoes to the market, commending the purpose of the farm for adopting modern technology.

He noted that the interventions are set to boost output and ensure a steady supply of tomatoes, revealing that harvesting is already underway, with produce being collected every three days to stabilize supply and help ease market prices.

“It was also made known that harvesting has already commenced, with produce being harvested every three days, a development that is expected to stabilize supply and help moderate market prices,” part of the statement indicated.

The Minister assured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate tomato availability, urging traders and consumers to remain calm.
