RNAQ’s ex-wife appeals divorce ruling, seeks fair share of assets

Joana Quaye, ex-wife of Ghanaian billionaire Richard Nii Armah Quaye (RNAQ), has taken her divorce battle to the Court of Appeal, seeking a fair share of their marital assets.

Madam Quaye is challenging a High Court ruling that awarded her GHC 300,000, arguing that the judgment fails to align with Ghana’s constitutional framework on equitable distribution of marital property.

The appeal, filed by her lawyer Godfred Yeboah Dame, claims the High Court overlooked her significant contributions to the marriage, including financial support and management roles that helped grow their businesses.

Madam Quaye is seeking a recalibration of asset distribution, including real estate holdings, company shares, and other movable properties acquired during the marriage.

A key aspect of the appeal is the treatment of corporate interests, with Quaye arguing that several companies linked to RNAQ were jointly established during the marriage and should be included in the distributable marital pool.

The appeal also questions why certain valuable properties, such as homes in desirable areas, were excluded from the distribution.

The Court of Appeal is yet to set a hearing date for the matter.
