Ghanaian musician and activist, Emmanuel Owusu Bonsu, known by his stage name, Wanlov the Kubolor has ignited widespread reactions online after sharing a striking photo in support of the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Wanlov accompanied the image with the caption
“Stop Galamsey NOW!”, reinforcing the urgency of addressing the ongoing environmental crisis in Ghana.
The photo, which has since gone viral, captures the musician standing nude in a natural setting, surrounded by rocks, flowing water, and lush greenery. Positioned confidently on a rock in what appears to be a stream or forest area, Wanlov uses his body as part of the visual statement, while the inscription “STOP GALAMSEY” is boldly placed across the image to emphasize the message.
The unconventional nature of the image has drawn mixed reactions from social media users. While some have praised the activist for using his platform and creativity to highlight the devastating effects of illegal mining on Ghana’s water bodies and forests, others have debated the choice of nudity as a means of advocacy.
“The Ghanaian way of protesting never really get anything done. We have to go the unorthodox way for them to see how serious we are,” one user commented.
