Award-winning Afro Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, has emotionally recounted the painful experience of losing his mother, Catherine Satekla, describing it as a moment that changed him forever.
Speaking during a conversation with Kafui Dey on April 10, 2026, the musician recounted how he received the distressing news while in New York shortly after winning at the BET Awards.
He explained that what initially appeared to be a minor health concern quickly turned critical after his mother reportedly collapsed twice at home, prompting her urgent admission to the 37 Military Hospital.
While abroad, he stayed in touch through updates from his sister. However, the communication became less frequent at a point, a situation he believes was influenced by the close bond he shared with his mother.
The artiste revealed that a recent conversation with his sister brought back painful memories, forcing him to end it early, and admitted he still struggles with her decision not to fully inform him about their mother’s condition at the time.
“The recent conversation I had with one of my sisters brought back painful memories about my mother’s final moments, and I had to cut it short. I still struggle to accept her decision not to fully disclose how serious our mother’s condition was at the time because she believed I was busy,” he revealed.
Upon his return to Ghana, the artiste said he headed straight from the airport to the hospital, leaving his luggage behind in a desperate attempt to see his mother.
Recounting the devastating moment, he said he encountered a troubling scene upon arrival.
“I came back and rushed to the hospital. As I was walking around to the entrance, I saw people resuscitating someone, and that was my mum. Immediately I got in there, they pulled her to me,” he said.
He disclosed that he was the first to see her in that state and struggled to accept the reality of her passing. Despite the situation, he held on to hope that she would recover and wake up the next morning, a hope that never materialized.
