The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has openly acknowledged the challenges confronting Ghana’s education system, stressing the urgent need for collective action to address them.
Speaking at the launch of Mfantsipim Senior High School’s 150th anniversary celebration, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Sunday April 12, 2026, he revealed that Ghana’s educational infrastructure, from the basic to the secondary level, is “not in the best of shape.”
He cautioned against pretending otherwise, describing the situation as a crisis that requires immediate attention.
The Minister emphasized the importance of expanding and improving access to quality education across the country.
He noted that while achievements have been made in increasing enrollment, the quality of facilities and resources remains inadequate.
Haruna Iddrisu called for broader stakeholder engagement, “urging government, educators, and civil society to work together in finding sustainable solutions”.
The minister also a Member of Parliament for Tamale South highlighted that education is the foundation of national development and must be prioritized to secure Ghana’s future.
