The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has taken decisive action against illegal mining activities in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region.
On Tuesday, 14 April 2026, a NAIMOS task force raided illegal mining sites at Benkasa and Amomaso communities, seizing equipment and destroying makeshift structures.
The operation was prompted by reports of indiscriminate destruction of cocoa farms, forests, and water bodies, including Rivers Amoma and Kyimira.

The illegal activities had sparked widespread agitation among local inhabitants, who petitioned NAIMOS for support.
At Benkasa, the task force intercepted three excavators, destroyed a water pumping machine, Changfang machine, and gold washing platform, and seized two pump action guns and seven cartridges.
Similar action was taken at Amomaso, where three excavators were seized and equipment destroyed.

The operation has been welcomed by the local community, with inhabitants of Amomaso expressing jubilation and appreciation for NAIMOS’ swift response.

NAIMOS remains committed to combating illegal mining and protecting the environment.
The Secretariat appeals to citizens to report cases of illegal mining to support their efforts.
