NAIMOS cracks down on illegal mining in Berekum West District
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has taken decisive action against illegal mining activities in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region.

On Tuesday, 14 April 2026, a NAIMOS task force raided illegal mining sites at Benkasa and Amomaso communities, seizing equipment and destroying makeshift structures.

The operation was prompted by reports of indiscriminate destruction of cocoa farms, forests, and water bodies, including Rivers Amoma and Kyimira.

The illegal activities had sparked widespread agitation among local inhabitants, who petitioned NAIMOS for support.

At Benkasa, the task force intercepted three excavators, destroyed a water pumping machine, Changfang machine, and gold washing platform, and seized two pump action guns and seven cartridges.

Similar action was taken at Amomaso, where three excavators were seized and equipment destroyed.
