The Ghana Library Authority (GLA) has taken a bold initiative with a visit to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, in its quest to explore measures for improving library infrastructure and management across the region.

The cooperative gesture took place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, when officials from the GLA, led by its Board Chair, Dr. Michael Ato Essuman, called on the Regional Minister at his office.

The meeting centered on strengthening the capacity of public libraries in the Ashanti Region to better serve students, researchers, and the wider community.

Dr. Amoakohene, in a statement, said that access to knowledge remains critical to education, innovation, and national development, hence the initiative.

“Our discussions focused on improving library infrastructure and strengthening library management across the Ashanti Region. We also explored strategies to sustain the Open Field Library Initiative, which became one of the novel and impactful additions to AshantiFest 2026,” the minister noted in a statement.

He expressed the region’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote reading, learning, and opportunities for the youth and communities.
