Twenty-eight Ghanaian nationals lured by false promises of lucrative opportunities in Europe, have been rescued from a human trafficking network in Côte d’Ivoire and safely repatriated to Ghana.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a statement, noting that the successful rescue mission was carried out on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

According to the ministry, the victims, predominantly youth, were deceived by traffickers who promised them “paradise in Europe” but instead transported them to Côte d’Ivoire under exploitative conditions.

However, a coordinated operation involving Ghanaian security operatives and officials of the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan led to their successful rescue and return.

The Ministry confirmed that the victims are now in Ghana and assisting with ongoing investigations.

It expressed the Ghana government’s gratitude to Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence-sharing, which proved crucial in dismantling the trafficking ring.

“The Government of Ghana conveys commendations to Ivorian authorities for the effective collaboration and shared intelligence.”
