Chief of staff opens 24th CAA African Senior Athletics Championship

The Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, officially opened the 24th Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African Senior Athletics Championship yesterday.

The championship has brought together athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts from across the continent to celebrate African excellence, unity, and competitive spirit through athletics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hon. Debrah highlighted the importance of sports in promoting unity among African countries and inspiring young people across the continent.

In a post shared later on his Facebook page, he described the event as a celebration of Africa’s excellence, unity, and competitive spirit.

He also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to supporting sports development and hosting successful international sporting events.

The event was marked by colourful cultural displays, team parades, and enthusiastic support from spectators as participating countries prepared to compete in various track and field events.

The CAA African Senior Athletics Championship remains one of the continent’s biggest athletics competitions, providing athletes the opportunity to qualify for major international tournaments while promoting friendship and unity among African nations.

Hon. Debrah encouraged Team Ghana and all participating athletes to compete with discipline, determination, and sportsmanship, adding, “Go Africa, Go Ghana.”
