Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has assured delegates of his readiness to deliver on his mandate when elected to become the next National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He promised to rebuild, unite, and reposition the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, June 1, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said his political journey has been defined by resilience and loyalty.

“I have never had the luxury of an easy election. Every battle has been hard-fought. But those trials did not break me. They built me,” he stated.

Wontumi, who has served three consecutive terms as Ashanti Regional Chairman, credited his rise through the party to the grassroots.

“The grassroots made me. I owe them everything,” he said, noting that he progressed from the constituency level while strengthening the party’s electoral fortunes in its stronghold region.

He stressed that loyalty to the NPP must be shown through action.

“When the party chose Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I put personal preference aside and worked for victory. That is what loyalty looks like. Not in words, but in work,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi argued that the NPP needs practical leadership over rhetoric.

“We don’t need more polished English. We need a working chairman. The NPP has no shortage of elites and eloquent speakers. I am here to deliver results,” he stressed.

If elected, he outlined four priorities: unite the party by strengthening ties between leadership and the grassroots, rebuild structures from the polling station level, lead the NPP to victory in 2028 behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and expand opportunities for young activists.

Addressing his ongoing legal challenges, Wontumi said they do not disqualify him from serving. “I respect the law. I believe in due process. History is full of leaders who were tried in the fire while serving their people. What matters is integrity. What matters is resilience. I have both.”

He described his bid as a commitment to service, not status. “I’m not asking to be served. I’m asking to serve. I will be a working chairman. The kind who sleep in the constituencies and wake up with the grassroots.”

Chairman Wontumi pledged to work with every constituency, region, party executive, and stakeholder to build a united front capable of returning the NPP to government in 2028.
