Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed that Ghana and the United States are set to hold high-level discussions on outstanding extradition requests, including cases involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

In a statement shared on his Facebook wall, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the engagement will bring Ghana’s Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, together with officials of the U.S. Department of Justice to review pending extradition matters between both countries.

He indicated that the talks are expected to cover all active requests from both sides as Ghana seeks to deepen legal cooperation with the United States on cross-border criminal justice issues.

Among the key cases expected to be discussed is Ghana’s request for the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently the subject of ongoing investigations by state authorities.

The planned engagement comes at a time when extradition cooperation between Ghana and international partners has gained renewed attention following recent developments in high-profile financial crime cases.

It follows the recent extradition of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, who was brought back to Ghana on Tuesday, June 9, after prolonged legal processes abroad.

Upon arrival, she was taken into custody by security agencies to begin enforcement of court processes.

U.S. authorities are also expected to present their own extradition requests during the upcoming discussions, including cases involving individuals wanted for prosecution, among them a suspect identified as Abu Trica.
