A new national awards scheme has been established to celebrate Ghana’s oldest and most enduring businesses for their role in economic development and job creation.
The Ghana Platinum Excellence Awards will recognize companies and institutions that have survived decades of political transitions, economic downturns, technological disruptions, and leadership changes while contributing to national growth.
Speaking to the media ahead of the official launch in July 2026, CEO of Re-Focus Experience Ghana Limited, Nii Saka Brown, said the awards seek to identify, document, celebrate, and learn from these organizations.
“There has never been a dedicated national platform established to celebrate, preserve, and showcase the stories of Ghana’s oldest and most enduring companies,” Brown stated.
He noted that some institutions in Ghana have survived for over 40, 50, 75, and even 100 years, demonstrating resilience and offering valuable lessons for today’s entrepreneurs and future business leaders.
According to Brown, the Ghana Platinum Excellence Awards aims to celebrate Ghana’s corporate heritage, promote sustainability and long-term thinking, inspire entrepreneurs to build enduring businesses, and encourage strong governance and succession planning.
He added that the awards will also preserve important aspects of Ghana’s economic history and position the country as a leader in celebrating corporate longevity and institutional excellence.
Brown said many businesses fail after establishment due to poor management and weak succession planning, leading to loss of jobs, lessons, and economic opportunities. However, he stressed that some have thrived despite challenges.
As part of the initiative, a Legacy Business Forum will be organized. The high-level executive engagement event is expected to bring together business leaders, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors, development partners, academia, and industry experts.
The main launch of the Ghana Platinum Excellence Awards is scheduled for July 2026.
