Lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Church, Nana Kofi Kantanka, has alleged that former Member of Parliament (MP) Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo fired the first shot during a disturbance that marred the introduction of the church’s newly appointed leader on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Speaking on JoyNews, monitored by Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), Kantanka said the event was organized to formally present the new leader to the General Council, the body representing the church’s broader membership.
According to him, Adwoa Safo arrived at the venue and attempted to force her way through the gates with her vehicle. Attendees initially heard loud bangs, which he said were later discovered to be the sound of her car crashing into the southern gate of the premises.
“We realised that it was Honorable Sarah Adwoa Safo who was in the car. Since she couldn’t penetrate the gate with the car, she moved to the northern gate and repeated the same action,” Kantanka stated.
He claimed that private security personnel on duty intervened after becoming concerned that the actions could endanger lives, with many people gathered inside the compound.
“The information I got was that she fired the first shot and then banged the gate with her car. The private security also knew that the lives of people were at risk, so they were giving warning shots,” he said.
Kantanka added that he could not confirm whether Adwoa Safo was wounded in the incident.
He rejected suggestions that the former MP had been barred from the event, insisting she would have been granted access if she had followed standard entry procedures.
The lawyer further said the matter is currently under investigation by both state security agencies and church authorities.
“We will also conduct our private investigation, and anybody who has perpetrated any wrongdoing will be prosecuted,” Kantanka stated.
