The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced free NHIS registration for all persons affected by the recent floods in Accra, including their dependents, as cases of diarrhoea and cholera rise.
The measure, announced by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe is part of urgent efforts to protect public health in communities impacted by the floods.
According to the NHIA, flooding has disrupted sanitation systems, contaminated water sources, and increased the risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and others in the affected areas.
“No Ghanaian should be denied access to quality healthcare because of a natural disaster. With an imminent outbreak of diarrhoea and cholera following the floods, this free registration will ensure that victims and their families can seek timely treatment without financial burden,” Dr. Bampoe stated.
