Lawyers for former Chief Executive for National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, have said they will initiate contempt proceedings against top state officials.

They accused the Attorney-General, Deputy Attorney-General and the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations of deliberately violating a High Court order in arresting their client at Accra International Airport.

In a statement issued, lead counsel Godfred Yeboah Dame said the arrest defied court permission granted to Abdul-Wahab to travel to the United Kingdom for medical care.

According to the legal team, Justice Achibonga of the High Court, sitting as an additional judge, granted the application on June 29 for Abdul-Wahab to travel to the UK between July 4 and July 12 for an appointment with his optician.

The hearing was attended by both the defence and the prosecution, including Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Srem Sai.

The lawyers also rejected claims that Abdul-Wahab attempted to access a frozen Republic Bank account before leaving the country.

“We challenge him to produce evidence of a withdrawal of any sum by our client from any of his bank accounts since the date of the court order,” the statement said.

Dame maintained that there was no valid freezing order in force at the time.

He explained that any previous orders lapsed after the state withdrew earlier charges against Abdul-Wahab on May 5, 2026, resulting in his discharge.

He further referenced a May 20, 2026 ruling by the High Court in Adentan on fresh charges filed on May 15, in which the court held that Abdul-Wahab’s re-arrest initiated “a fresh process,” implying that no prior restrictions remained.

The legal team said this position had already been communicated to the Executive Director of EOCO in a letter delivered about two weeks ago.

The statement also cited other high-profile cases where accused persons standing trial were granted permission to travel, including Dr. Stephen Opuni, Seidu Agongo, Alhaji Collins Dauda, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

Dame described Dr. Srem Sai’s July 4 Facebook post justifying the arrest as “false,” and accused the Attorney-General’s Office of misleading the public and unlawfully deploying the BNI.

He said the airport arrest amounted to “a blatant and wilful violation” of a High Court order.

Abdul-Wahab is currently facing charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the state in relation to his tenure at NAFCO.
