Ghana’s Black Stars are capable of becoming world champions in 20 years’ time, broadcast journalist with Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), Saddick Adams, popularly known as Sports Obama, has projected.
According to the celebrated broadcaster, this feat would materialize with “proper leadership” coupled with a well-structured national football plan.
Speaking on Ghana’s disappointment at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports Obama indicated that although the country is blessed with a pool of talents, that alone is not enough to reign supreme, observing that national team successes are not achieved overnight.
“I’m saying this here today that Ghana’s senior team can win the FIFA World Cup in 20 years’ time, but in 16 years’ time it would mature. Take it from me, Ghana can win the World Cup with proper leadership. It is likely to mature in 16 years because you might play in the finals first and maybe lose it, then go on to win it eventually.
“If we get a Sports Minister who understands Ghana’s football – not one who would follow the team and resort to granting interviews – a competent Boss of the National Sports Authority (NSA), President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and a Ghana Education Service (GES) Boss, we can become world champions,” he stressed.
He suggested a national football center (National Academy) must be built in the middle belt and the southern sector to begin recruitment from scratch – Junior High School (JHS) level.
The award-winning journalist believes a collaboration among the mentioned institutions, amidst proper leadership planning, would be instrumental as the focal point for future successes rather than the usual wholesale call-ups and expectations of instant results.
Sports Obama further underscored that this module will create competition among the best recruits at these national academies, building team cohesion beginning from the junior national teams through to the ranks of the Black Stars.
“This is how we build national teams,” he stated, citing the same methods which bred Asamoah Gyan, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, among other groups that formed a very formidable squad during their era.
His observation was made on Angel TV on Monday, July 6, 2026, while proposing solutions to restore the sinking spirit of Ghana football.
Sports Obama also expressed his frustration over how Ghana’s football is being administered, cautioning that it is time things are done the right way and with proper planning, asserting that winning major tournaments is not achieved by “miracles.”
“Do you know how World Cups are won? It is not the quality of football of teams; it is rather what we call team spirit that wins you World Cups,” he told Ohemaa Sakyiwaa in an exclusive interview.
