Lawyer Kwame Akuffo, counsel for former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, and five other children of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo has said the reading of the founder’s will has not settled the question of leadership in the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Mr. Akuffo said there has been “constant munde mufe” since yesterday suggesting that the will automatically determines who leads the church. He described that position as inaccurate.
“It’s important for you to understand that when the information concerning a matter is not accurate or precise and determinations are made upon it by certain sections of the society, the conclusions are different,” he said.
According to him, the church “operates on the basis of constitutional process” and that process “is not anchored on a will which is yet to be admitted to probate.”
Mr. Akuffo stated that there is no provision in the will appointing anyone as leader.
“There’s no part of the will which annointed any individual as the next leader of the church,” he said, adding that those who have read the document, particularly clause 27, will note it only refers in general terms to a male biological child being an heir or being capable to ascend to leadership, without naming anyone.
He said it is important to correct what he described as a distorted narrative being circulated as fact.
“Those who have read the will have noticed that no one is mentioned in that will as a leader of the church. It is especially important because that misconception is inaccurate, improper, and untidy,” he said.
Mr. Akuffo disclosed that prior to the reading of the will, his clients had obtained and served an interlocutory injunction on Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, who he said “is now parading himself as the leader of the church.”
He alleged that despite service of the injunction, Akofena went ahead with processes relating to leadership.
“For those of us who have read the will, we know it’s null and void on this matter. It’s a matter of time before the clarification comes to settle the issues. There’s no properly installed leader of the church,” Mr. Akuffo said.
He said his client has instructed him to seek clarity on the constitutional provisions governing succession in the Kristo Asafo Mission.
