Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga Central, Emmanuel Adottey Allotey, has led a massive cleanup exercise in seven flood-prone zones in the municipality to clear choked drains and prevent property damage ahead of the rains.
The exercise forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s 2-day Mandatory National Cleanup Exercise from Friday, July 10 to Saturday, July 11, 2026 under the government’s “Resetting Ghana Agenda.”

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Allotey said areas including Santa Maria, A-Lang, Awoshie, Chantan, Palas Town Junction, Anyaa Market, Ablekuma Curve, Olebu and several other communities experience severe flooding that destroys properties whenever it rains.
“We are desilting all gutters in those zones,” he said.

The MCE commended Zoomlion Ghana Ltd. for its support, noting that the company has opened 5 dumping stations to the Municipality and also the Adepa Dumping site which will operate daily. He added that Zoomlion has also provided trucks to aid the exercise.
“All refuse will be packed to these dumping sites,” he stated.

Mr. Allotey further thanked President Mahama for providing relief items to support residents affected by flooding.
He appealed to other institutions, especially banks, to collaborate financially and with relief items to make the cleanup successful.

“Those within the Municipality who save at the banks are the same people who have suffered severe losses because of the flooding. If you don’t help them, they won’t be able to work and get more money to save at your various banks. You can help us by renting equipment for us to use for the clean-up exercise,” he urged.
The MCE expressed satisfaction with the turnout, saying residents across the Assembly have turned up in their numbers and there have been no issues so far.

“I thank President Mahama for organising this exercise and we as an Assembly will continue to organise sanitation exercises,” he added.

Mr. Allotey urged residents to refrain from dumping refuse at unauthorized places and to follow sanitation protocols. He called on residents to gather again in their numbers for day two of the exercise on Saturday.
