President Mahama rejects claims Volta Region is taken for granted

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed claims that the Volta Region is taken for granted because of its political support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that his government is committed to ensuring equitable development across the country.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Juapong in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, President Mahama said his administration is investing in infrastructure and economic opportunities in the region based on fairness and constitutional responsibility, not political considerations.

“This government that I lead does not regard the Volta Region merely as a region of loyal political support. We reject the notion that any part of Ghana should be taken for granted or left behind because of its electoral choices.”

The President stressed that his government’s mandate is to serve all Ghanaians regardless of where they live or how they vote.

“Our mandate, given to us by the good people of Ghana, is to govern the country for every Ghanaian, and our commitment to the Volta Region is founded on fairness, on equity, and our constitutional responsibility to ensure balanced national development across the whole of the country.”

President Mahama noted that government is expanding healthcare infrastructure, strengthening educational institutions, improving road networks, modernising markets and supporting agriculture and agro-processing to improve the quality of life in the Volta Region.

“That is why we are deliberately investing in the infrastructure and institutions that improve the quality of life of our people across the region.”
