The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a highway robbery at Portor-Gurumpe in the Bono East Region and recovered the full amount of money allegedly stolen from the victim.
The suspects are Samad Issahaka, 24, Yahaya Seidu, 35, Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21, Asigri Avoka, 25, Awini Stephen, 19, and Faisal Salifu, 26.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Officers on duty at the Portor Police Barrier under the Kintampo Police Division received intelligence that a robbery was underway a few metres from the barrier on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway.
A police team swiftly responded to the scene, where four of the suspects fled into the bush. However, officers arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25.
During preliminary interrogation, he identified Samad Issahaka, a fellow driver of a Kia Rhino with registration number AS 7337-23, as a member of the robbery gang. Police subsequently arrested him.
Further investigations revealed that the owner of the Kia Rhino, Yahaya Seidu, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle.
Police said the driver, knowing his employer was carrying money, allegedly conspired with five others to rob him.
The suspects, armed with a toy pistol, allegedly trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and robbed its occupants of GH¢300,000 in cash after the vehicle passed the Portor Police Barrier.
Police Counter Terrorism personnel, with support from the local Police Patrol team, pursued the remaining suspects into the bush and arrested other accomplices.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the entire GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from the victim.
According to the police, all six suspects have been detained and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
