Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has expressed solidarity with Chairman Wontumi following his 20-year jail term for illegal mining offenses.
According to him, members of the opposition party are with the Ashanti Regional Chairman in what he described as “moments of difficulty.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Mr. Boadu noted with deep concern and sympathy the development involving Chairman Wontumi.
“The New Patriotic Party is a family, and in moments of difficulty, we stand together. I stand in full solidarity with him, his family, and his supporters,” the statement said.
Mr. Boadu disclosed that the party leadership was pursuing “every lawful avenue” to secure Chairman Wontumi’s release and urged members to remain united and calm.
“Our strength lies in our unity, resilience and faith in justice,” parts of the statement read.
He also cautioned members against acts of provocation, stating that the party should continue to uphold its democratic values.
