Top Ghanaian referee Julian Nunoo has earned an appointment to officiate at the forthcoming WAFU Zone B U20 Championship, scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from July 26 to August 10, 2026.
The tournament will bring together some of the best young talents in West Africa as countries compete for regional supremacy and qualification for the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The tournament carries added significance as it serves as the qualifying competition for the continental championship, which Ghana is set to host in 2027.
His appointment makes him the only Ghanaian centre referee selected for the prestigious tournament.
In a statement, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed pride in his development and celebrated the experienced referee.
According to the GFA, the appointment of Ghana’s Best Referee in 2023 is a testament to his excellent decision-making, fitness levels and command of matches.
“His selection to officiate at the regional championship underscores the confidence that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and WAFU Zone B have in his abilities.
“Nunoo’s appointment represents another milestone for Ghanaian refereeing and highlights the country’s continued contribution to football officiating in Africa. Over the years, Ghanaian referees have earned respect across the continent, and Nunoo now has the opportunity to further strengthen that legacy in Ivory Coast.”
Julian Nunoo is expected to use his proven track record and wealth of experience to raise Ghana’s flag high on the international stage.
