The government has allocated GH¢400 million for the acquisition of high‑occupancy buses to expand public transport and improve mobility nationwide, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.
He made the announcement on Thursday, July 23, 2026, during the presentation of the 2026 Mid‑Year Budget Review in Parliament.
According to Dr. Forson, the allocation will strengthen the fleets of state‑owned transport companies, including Metro Mass Transit (MMT) and the State Transport Company (STC), as part of efforts to provide safer, more reliable, and affordable services for commuters.
“Government is reallocating GH¢400 million for the acquisition of high‑occupancy buses to strengthen the fleets of state‑owned transport companies, including Metro Mass Transit and the State Transport Company (STC),” he hinted.
He explained that this step forms part of the government’s broader plan to improve urban mobility by expanding access to efficient mass transportation systems.
Dr. Forson stressed that the buses will help address the struggles and long queues experienced by commuters at bus terminals, while easing congestion on major roads.
“Government is committed to improving urban mobility and providing safe, reliable, and affordable public transport for Ghanaians,” he added.
The minister emphasized that the NDC government prioritizes the welfare of citizens and ensures it creates an efficient and enabling transportation system for the people.
