The Minority Caucus in Parliament says the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review presented by the Finance Minister lacks the substance Ghanaians need to address their pressing concerns.
According to the Caucus, the presentation can be described as “uninspiring and empty,” falling short of the clarity and accountability expected from a mid-year assessment.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin accused the government of delivering a broad statement filled with jargon but lacking factual backing.
“This review is full of English with empty payments. The payment they say they have done, why didn’t they give us details? Mr. Speaker, this review is uninspiring, and there is no inspiration in it.
“What we are experiencing in this country is persecution. You are persecuting people, and you are here telling us you are running an economy,” he said on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Afenyo-Markin argued that the broader assertions made by the government regarding supposed achievements were mere rhetoric compared to the realities Ghanaians are facing.
The Minority Leader stressed that the government must understand its constitutional mandate to serve Ghanaians and Parliament with greater accountability and transparency in the use of state resources.
