The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has opened the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line to private sector operators under a new Open Access Model.
This model would create opportunities for increased private sector participation in Ghana’s Railway sector.
According to the Authority, the initiative is targeted to promote efficient and competitive rail freight services.
In a notice on its Facebook page on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the GRDA explained that this will also support the “movement of goods, reducing pressure on road transportation and strengthening Ghana’s position as a regional logistics and trade hub.”
It added that the Open Access Model provides an opportunity for qualified private operators to utilise the railway infrastructure while contributing to the growth and sustainability of Ghana’s railway industry.
