The Minority in Parliament has alleged that several individuals who travelled to the United States under the purported institutional arrangement involving the National Sports Authority (NSA) have not returned to the country.
Speaking at a presser in Parliament House, the Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said information available to them points to a number of persons still outside the country after months of the tounament’s conclusion.
“According to the information available to us, several individuals who travelled to the United States under the purported institutional arrangement have to date not returned to Ghana.
“One, the assistant to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah is still not back in the country. Mr. Sevin Otre, the driver of the Minister for Sports and Recreation is still not back to the country. The secretary of the then Chief Director is still not back to the country,” Mr. Assafuah alleged.
He stressed that the claims should be independently verified through official records.
“These matters should be independently verified through immigration records and the relevant travel documents,” he said.
He noted the development challenges attempts to reduce the scandal to the conduct of the NSA Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who is currently on suspension and under investigations.
According to him, the documentary trail available to the Minority shows broader institutional involvement.
“The documentary trail before us involves the NSA, the Ministry of Sports, the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Tribe Culture Fest and individuals connected to different levels of these institutions,” he added.
