Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League clash with Barcelona is set to go ahead on Tuesday night, October 20 despite violent protests across France.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu confirmed on Monday, October 19, that the game at the Parc des Princes will not be postponed. Authorities say security will be increased around the stadium, with curfews and restrictions on demonstrations in parts of Paris.
The country has seen days of unrest over the rising cost of living and conditions in schools, leading to looting and thousands of arrests.
On the pitch, both teams head into the match with perfect starts in this season’s competition.
Barcelona trained at the Parc des Princes on Monday with teenage star Lamine Yamal involved. Manager Hansi Flick and midfielder Pedri later addressed the media.
Flick described PSG as a top side and said the match will show the true level of his team. He also praised PSG boss Luis Enrique, who won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015.
Pedri said Yamal can be the difference for Barcelona against PSG, but comparing him to Lionel Messi is unfair.
