Resolve your problem with Dormahene before you commence registration – EC told

Dormaahene, Nana Agyemang Badu II

The Electoral Commissioner (EC) has been advised to work to resolve the fracas between the institution and the National House of Chiefs if they seek to have a peace registration exercise.

The Jean Mensa-led commission has not been in the best of terms with the National House of Chiefs following the refusal of the former to honour the invitation of the latter.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Omanhene of Dorma waded into this controversy by calling on the EC to rescind its decision to compile a new voters register.

The Chief noted during a visit to his palace by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia that the time for the compilation of the new register was wrong.

He cited the prevailing conditions surrounding the compilation of a new register such as the COVID-19 as part of the reasons why the EC ought to stop the compilation of the new voters roll.

Dormahene also wondered why the EC will want to do that with just few months left for the elections.

To him, the most “sensible thing” to do at the moment is to put in place measures to prevent and if possible bring the coronavirus under complete control.

Devote full commitment to your core mandates and stop chasing awards – Mahama tells appointees

Commenting on this on Angel 102.9FM’s Morning Show, Anopa Bofoɔ on Monday, 15th June, 2020, hosted by Captain Smart, Security Analyst, Irbad Ibrahim said EC ought to ensure that it resolves its issue with the Dormahene and the National House of Chiefs.

“If this had come from an ordinary chief who is a sub-chief, we would have ignored it. The last thing Ghana would want is a rift between traditional authority and the state….” he opined.

Irbad said he fears the youth of Dorma will antagonize staff of the EC during the Registration Exercise which is set to kick off in about two weeks time.

“The youth will listen to their chief because he is the only one they know…we should look for a way of resolving this…its 15 days more, we should find a solution.

“I think there could be a polite and gorgeous way of resolving this so that when they commence registration, the youth won’t rise against them because if not handled well, this can have far-reaching repercussions on the security of the state…I say again, if they said you’ve done something against a chief, you have to go and apologise…,” he said.
