Maverick politician, K.T. Hammond has hauled some unnamed media organisations to the National Media Commission for “deliberately” misrepresenting him.
He suspects their actions were aimed at causing disaffection for him, especially in the eyes of persons from the Volta region.
Mr. Hammond was reported as claiming that people from the Volta region are non-Ghanaians. This was in reference to the heavy security presence along the Ghana-Togo border, which some opinion leaders complained it is causing discomfort to residents in the Volta region as Ghana registers eligible voters for the December elections.
But K.T. Hammond who is the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa issued statement on Monday to deny what the media organisations have attributed to him.
He pointed out: “I am educated, old and mature enough to know the history of Ghana and to understand the debilitating effect of ethnocentricity and bigotry in any community.
“I am not the one to call fellow citizens from the Volta Region, non- Ghanaians.”
He said he has “taken steps to report the media houses associated with this mischief to the National Media Commission for redress”.
He is therefore asking the general public to disregard the “twists” put on the interview he granted a cross section of the media last week because they are “deliberate, malicious, shameless”.
