Government releases over GHS 76 million for the Black Stars World Cup campaign

Accra-based Angel FM has obtained a deep throat information that Startimes, the TV right holders for the cancelled Ghana topflight league, spent a whopping $122,500 on the coverage of the 2019/20 season.

The China-based company spent $3,500 on each of the 35 Ghana Premier League games that were aired live on TV before prematurely ending the season due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Following the Ghana Football Association’s decision to truncate the league season after the Executive Council met on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, Startimes has been counting its loss.

It would be recalled that StarTimes, agreed on a coverage right cost of $10m for the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup competitions after beating off stiff contest from state-owned Ghana Television (GTV) and many others.

It is yet unknown for the steps to be taken by the broadcast right holders but a statement released by the GFA revealed the Executive Council will meet on Thursday, July 9 to take a decision for the future.
