Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has expressed shock at news of the demise of the party’s former General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.

Speaking Thursday, July 2, 2020, on Angel FM’s morning show, ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ‘, Obiri Boahen described the late Chief Executive Officer of Forestry Commission known popularly as ‘Sir John’, as a friendly and generous person.

Sir John was a selfless person who was open to all, despite his position and was never a wicked or greedy person, he stated. He characterized him as an ‘easy-going person’ who had a way of handling complex issues as compared to how most people would handle them.

“Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie was a big time help to the NPP and if rated, would be among the best 10 in the political party; this statement is directly made by me and not the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Sir John died Wednesday evening while in intensive care at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie

He hailed from Sakora Wonoo in the Ashanti Region, attended SDA secondary school at Bekwai where he had his GCE O’ level.

He attained his A’ level at Konongo Odumase and later joined the University of Ghana, Legon as a political science student. Owusu Afriyie upgraded to the Ghana Law School and was admitted as the soliciting council for the Supreme Court.
