The NPP Communications Directorate for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituency of the Western Region, has urged the public to disregard calls for the arrest of the bodyguard of the MP, Catherine Afeku.
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the region, had earlier alleged that the said bodyguard assaulted a Metro TV Cameraman and deleted a video footage from his camera.
But the Communications Directorate of the NPP in the constituency has urged the public to disregard the call by the Western Regional Branch of the GJA and treat it with the contempt it deserves.
“We in Evalue Ajomoro Gwira NPP got intelligence that the Western Regional secretary of the NDC Mr. Japhet Baidoo, had planned with some journalists in Takoradi to smear the image of Hon. Catherine Afeku with that particular case in question”, the Communication Directorate stated.
The communications team said they were not surprised when the Metro TV cameraman came in the same vehicle with the NDC Western Regional secretary to Axim, to execute their plan.
Narrating sequence of events, they said that the Metro TV cameraman, Alhaji Mustapha Ashley, was recording court proceedings secretly without permission from leadership of the court.
To them, the said cameraman is aware that video and audio recordings are not permitted in court.
The bodyguard of Catherine Afeku then reported the case to the police who took up the case and did their work professionally.
“What did the GJA secretary want the MP to do? To interfere with the police in the Court premises?
They, therefore, called on the Western Region branch of the GJA to leave the MP’s bodyguard to discharge his duties.
Catherine Afeku is an outstanding legislator who has built a solid reputation and endeared herself to many due to her exceptional performance, a signed statement from the communication directorate defended.
According to them, the journalist’s “mischievous attempt” to rope in the Member of Parliament and Minister of State, Catherine Afeku, further exposes their evil agenda towards the innocent woman.
“The fact still remains that the NDC communicator insulted , defamed, denigrated the MP and the whole NDC regional executives led by Chairman Nana Toku were in Axim to apologise,” the statement further read.
They concluded that no amount of front page coverage will stop the massive win awaiting Catherine Afeku in the December elections.
