Gold track students vacate but not all are allowed to go home on Friday

Second year Gold students in Senior High School are to vacate on Friday, July 31, but not all students would be allowed to go home immediately.

Students whose vacation would delay are those in schools with recent record of coronavirus pandemic, a joint statement by the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service announced on Thursday.

The Gold Track students reported to school on 22^nd June to complete their first semester, having gone a long break following the outbreak of the deadly virus in Ghana in March.

“By the grace of God, the 2nd year Gold students have gone through the programmes successfully and are due to return home on Friday 31st July, 2020,” the statement said.

It was jointly signed by the Director General of Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwah, and Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye

The two institutions have meanwhile set out some guidelines for the 2nd year Gold students to return home:

1. Any school where no positive case of COVID-19 has been recorded, the students can vacate and go home.
2. Any school that had positive case but has not reported any new positive case within the last two weeks, the students can vacate and go home.
3. Any school that had a positive case within the last two weeks, all contacts within the GOLD track will have their vacation delayed for assessment and observation before they can be allowed to go on vacation and parents of such students will be notified.

Meanwhile, final year SHS students who also returned to school on June 22 are participating in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

“Management of GES and GHS take the opportunity to urge the general public especially parents to continue to support our final year students with prayers as they continue with their examinations.”
