Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu-Agyeman have wished Muslims well as they mark Eid-ul-Adha festival with a call on all to remain faithful and trust God.
In their goodwill message to Muslims, the former first family emphasized the need for people to emulate the selflessness of Ibrahim (Abraham).
Muslims across the world are celebrating Eid-ul-Adha on Friday, July 31, which honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command.
“Eid-ul-Adha is meant to remind us of the willingness of Ibrahim to submit to God. That test of faith is worthy of emulation by all especially during this difficult period of Covid-19,” the Rawlingses said in a statement.
The family asked that the day is used to pray for “our dear nation” as all work to combat the deadly coronavirus pandemic that has plagued the world.
“Let us also take advantage of the period to counsel friends and family on the need to adhere to strict Covid-19 protocols of social distancing, wearing of masks, regular washing of hands and use of hand sanitizers.”
The statement further urged people to be a blessing on the less-privileged by sharing their celebratory meals with them.
