Desist from attacking Journalists- GJA warns
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has served strong caution to all groups and individuals that it will resist fearlessly any attack on its members in the quest to serve society with credible news.

This caution comes in the wake of attack on Daily Graphic reporter, Damalie Emmanuel Pacome by some students of Bright Senior High School at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region.

In a statement on Friday, August 7, 2020, the GJA said they were “smacked by an act of savagery” when the Daily Graphic reporter was assaulted and nearly lynched by the students.

GJA recounted that on Thursday, August 6, 2020, Damale Emmanuel Pacome, an intern of state-owned Daily Graphic was attacked by some students of the Bright Senior High School when he went to investigate a clash between officials of West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the final year students of the school who were writing their exams.

“The students reportedly emerged from the examination hall on the orders of a management member of the school to attack the WAEC officials who came around to monitor the examination”.

“The students upon seeing the reporter, filming the ongoing incidence chased him out from the school and reportedly pelted him with stones while others chased him with knives, cutlasses, and other weapons and called him a thief just to incite the community to join the mob attack.”

GJA has condemned the mob attack on Mr. Pacome and called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators.
