Former President John Dramani Mahama has suggested that the violence that led to the death of an NPP activist at Dormaa over the weekend is an exposé of the real people behind the recent pockets of electoral violence.
At least one person died and several others sustained life-threatening injuries during the Electoral Commission mop up exercise in the Bono regional town.
Former President Mahama in joining a number of well-meaning Ghanaians in condemning the violent act and mourning the loss of the NPP activist, said the young man was killed by gunshots discharged by armed thugs of his own party.
“It is crystal clear now for all to see that armed NPP thugs are running rampage everywhere and this portends a clear and present danger to our democracy,” Mr. Mahama said in a post on facebook on Monday.
“Violence must never be an option in our democracy,” he admonished, “Unfortunately, it is increasingly clear that having nurtured and democratized violence by his all ‘die be die’ mantra, Nana Akufo-Addo has lost control of his own party, just as he has lost control of many sectors of the economy in Ghana.”
Mr. Mahama, who is seeking reelection in the forthcoming general elections, said a new administration under his leadership from 2021 will fix the economy and restore justice and peace to Ghana.
