The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has revealed that the budget allocated for the school feeding program will be used to fund the one hot meal a day policy for final year Junior High Schools announced by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to the Minister, the government will resort to the use of the funds allocated for the school feeding programme.

She further stated that if they are able to exhaust the allocated school feeding budget for the one hot meal project, government will seek more funds for the project.

Cynthia Mamle Morrison during an interview on Angel FM’s ‘Anopa Bofo’ Morning Show added that since there has been an increase [due to the inclusion of private schools], additional caterers would be deployed to aid the existing caterers in preparing the meal.

“We have school feeding caterers across the country, but due to the additional number with regards to private schools, new caterers will be deployed to help,” she said.

She revealed further that schools with their own kitchen and or canteen as well as cooks will be made to prepare their own food using a menu which will be made available soon.

The Gender Minister said that the project will cover all 584,000 final year JHS students and 146,000 staff both in public and private schools.

“This whole project is solely for the well-being of our children and not a business to search for money”, the Minister indicated.
