The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has claimed the leader of the Western Togoland secessionist group, Mr Charles Kudzordzi, also known as Papavi Hogbedetor, has an affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Nana Obiri Boahen said this while reacting to comments by the opposition party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia that, the governing party is behind the recent attacks by the separatist group in the Volta region and nearby areas.Too early to crucify EC on voters register — Obiri Boahen - Graphic Online

“Papavi is an NDC card-bearing member. I am a historian and a lawyer as well as a state man with a credibility I hold on to. So I just don’t comment without my backings. Papavi is a card-bearing member of the NDC, if he wants he can take me to court over this,” the former Deputy Interior Minister told Kwamina Sam Biney, host of Angel FM’s ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ morning show Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

Raising attacks by the secessionist group to underscore clear scenarios that his NPP government is of a clear image, he said “this Papavi-led secessionist group in 2003 resurfaced when NPP was in power and in 2008 intensified their works knowing there was going to be an election. An instance was when the late Vice President, Aliu Mahama was chased out of Volta Region when he paid a visit in 2008.

“Now in contemporary times, the first time it happened again was on March 6, 2017, when they sent their flag to the Independence Day celebration grounds. Do you think it came out of the blue,” Obiri Boahen questioned.

This according to him, paints a gloomy picture of the party behind these atrocities anytime NPP comes into power.
