The Government of the Republic of Korea on Wednesday donated five (5) Hyundai vehicles to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The donation estimated at about one hundred and seventy- seven thousand US Dollars (US$177,000) was facilitated by the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Sungsoo Kim.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the ministry, the Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, expressed appreciation to the Republic of Korea for their kind generosity towards Ghana.

According to her, the donation is one of the many positive outcomes of the visit embarked upon by the Korean Foreign Minister, Kang Kyung-wha to Ghana in July 2019.

Mrs. Ayorkor Botchwey also attributed the gesture to friendly and cordial bilateral relations that exist between the two countries.

“The Korean people and their Government have over the years taken keen interest in Ghana’s socio-economic development and have closely worked with us to deepen the friendly and cordial bilateral relations, which exist between our two countries.

“Indeed, within the framework of the Technical, Economic Cooperation and Trade Promotion Agreement signed in 1990, the Republic of Korea has been consistent in delivering various forms of assistance to Ghana, channelled through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Korean Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), in critical areas such as transportation, fisheries, agriculture and human resource development, including recent support to Ghana’s healthcare system following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic through the provision of medical items, notably, PCR Machines and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs)”, she explained.

Meanwhile, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is optimistic that the handing over of these vehicles will inject dynamism into the rapidly growing and mutually beneficial relationship and enable the two countries to forge closer ties at the bilateral and multilateral fronts.
