The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Dr. Roland Affail Monney, has cautioned journalists to be circumspect in their reportage during ahead of the 2020 elections.

Dr. Roland Affail Monney noted that the time has come for journalists to sharpen their ‘gate keeping role’ and approach issues with extra sensitivity to promote peace in this tension-packed period.

“When it comes to elections, this is the time to subordinate the partisan interests to the supreme national interests and bring positive change into the country”, he advised.

Speaking on Angel FM’s ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ Morning Show on Friday, he said “as a journalist, before you write or speak, you should think about the implications and consequences it comes along with.”

Dr. Affail Monney stressed that ‘as an authority with a big responsibility, Journalists should make sure whatever program they design and whatever discussions they hold should be geared towards preaching developments and promoting peace since we exercise power over political parties and candidates.’

He went on to advice media practitioners not to disregard ethical values, saying Journalists first obligations is to the ‘truth’.

Touching on peace ahead of the December 7 polls, a Peace Ambassador, Gladys Biney, also advised the youth to concentrate on fighting for developmental projects to maintain peace since ‘peace is priceless’.
