There will be no ceremony to mark the first week of the passing of former President, Jerry John Rawlings, his office has announced.
According to a statement by Communications Director, Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, all flyers and communication announcing such event “are false and should be ignored.”
Mr. Rawlings died Friday, November 12, 2020 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
Per the custom of some ethnic groups, particularly Akans, a ceremony to mark a week of his passing would be observed and therefore, many were expecting such on the coming Friday, November 20.
It is, however, not surprising that the office of the late former president says such an event will not be held since Rawlings is from the Ewe ethnic group who do not observe such activities for the dead.
