The Supreme Court on Thursday, January 14, 2021, has granted John Dramani Mahama the opportunity to make amendments to his petition challenging the 2020 Presidential Election results.

The 2020 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, who is the petitioner in the case against the Electoral Commission and the pronounced winner, Nana Akufo-Addo, made typographical errors in some reliefs being sought.2021 election petition

He, therefore, through his lawyers, Tsatsu Tsikata and Tony Lithur, prayed the court to allow them to make corrections to the errors.

The seven-member panel, presided over by Chief Justice Annin Yeboah, in granting the plea indicated that the amendment would not affect the substance of the case.

The Court, therefore, gave Mr. Mahama up to 4pm today, to file his amended application at the court. The plaintiffs, on the other hand, have up to tomorrow January 15, 2021, to file their amended response.

The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, when pre-trial would commence.

The Supreme Court has also granted the motion for the proceedings to be telecast live.

Mr. Mahama and the NDC rejected the 2020 presidential results and the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as President. They argued that none of the two candidates got a clear majority to be declared President due to the omitted Techiman South results.

The Electoral Commission in declaring the results said, Nana Akufo-Addo garnered 51.59 percent while Mr. Mahama garnered 47.37 percent.

Mr. Mahama, subsequently, petitioned the Supreme Court to grant a re-run of the election between himself and President Akufo-Addo.
