It was a week of comebacks for Kotoko, WAFA and Aduana Stars in week 24 fixture of the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
Salifu Ibrahim’s solo goal helped Accra Hearts of Oak beat Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem as the Phobians go 2nd on the league log.
Bechem United started the game as favourite but couldn’t find the back of the net as Hafiz Konkoni failed to make good use of the chances created.
The Phobians proved on many occasions to open the score sheet with Patrick Razak and Kojo Obeng Junior questioning the defense of the home side.
The first department of the game ended goalless.
Denis Modzaka replaced Hafiz Konkoni for Bechem United after the forward sustained an injury in the first half of the game. With the Hearts team in search of goal, Coach Boadu introduced Afriyie Barnie and Manaf Umar.
Midfielder, Salifu Ibrahim broke the deadlock on the 72nd minute as he run passed two players before putting the ball at the back of the net.
Bechem tried their best to get the equalizer but to no avail as the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Rainbow boys.
Elsewhere in Tarkwa, WAFA came back from a goal done to defeat Medeama SC 2-1 at the Akoon Park.
Medeama were looking fearsome at home after Prince Opoku Agyemang announced his presence just 2 minutes into the game with a superb finish.
The home side continued to determine the pace of the game after taking the lead but couldn’t double their lead as the first half ended 1-0.
Just 6 minutes into the second half, the Academy boys levelled, kind courtesy Enoch Asubonteng strike.
The two sides tried their best to carry the day but unfortunately the home side were surprisely thumped at their own ground.
Godwin Agbevor scored in the dying embers of the game to get a win for WAFA over Medeama.
A disappointing Wednesday afternoon for the Tarkwa based club as they go two games without a win.
Asante Kotoko maintained their lead after Emmanuel Gyamfi’s double helped the Porcupine Warriors beat Ebusua Dwarfs at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Mid Week games of the GPL.
The league leaders stretched their lead at the top of the league log after recording three straight win.
Denis Korsah put the visitors in front on 24th minutes with a free-kick close to the opponent box.
Five minutes after, Emmanuel Gyamfi jumps the highest inside the box to head home Nettey’s cross to make it 1-1 on the 29th minutes.
It was a tie at the break after Emmanuel Gyamfi’s header cancelled out Dennis Korsah’s opener.
Gyamfi made it two for the Warriors five minutes into the second half after netting his second goal of the day.
In the 60th minutes, Liventus Arthur (Dwarfs) goes close to the opponent box but disappointed himself with a shot wide.
Right back, Christopher Nettey (Kotoko) was forced out of the game due to injury while the Kumasi based club recorded a 2-1 home win after coming from behind.
Aduana Stars also cameback after Great Olympics blew a 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Olympics started the game on a good note as Maxwell Quaye put the host into the lead on the 34th minutes.
The Dade boys held on to their
goal, finishing the first department with 1-0.
Abdul Munasiru grabbed the second goal for the home side (Olympics) on the 56th minutes in order to kill the game.
But the ‘Ogya’ boys responded from Sam Adams and Bright Adjei goal as they scored on the 60th and 84th minutes respectively to make it 2-2 draw.
Aduana continued to push for the win as Sam Adams made it 3-2 in additional time, scoring his second goal in the game to give his side the win.
