Bishop Dag Heward-Mills apologises to Asantehene

The Founder and Leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills has offered an unqualified apology to the overlord of the Asante Kingdom, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over an offensive sermon.

A leaked audiotape which is said to be part of a sermon on leadership preached by the man of God had attracted widespread criticism on social media from particularly Asantes and others who owe allegiance to the occupant of the Golden Stool.

Some have even threatened to visit mayhem on the branches of the church in Kumasi, the seat of the Asantehene.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, the man of God has offered an unqualified apology to the Asanteheme for overly criticising him in a sermon he preached over 20 years ago.

He however thanked the King for handling the matter “graciously”.

“I am deeply saddened that a message I shared at a conference nearly 20 years ago, has been taken out of its context and circulated by persons who have previously declared that they will maliciously cause our churches in Kumasi to be closed down”.

“I wish to apologize to His Majesty Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II for any disrespect, insult or harm caused him or his royal court. Please accept my profound apologies for the statements I made,” excerpts of the statement read.
